Lycopene is one among the best known compounds of plants that find more interest of the industrial producers as well as the consumers as a result of their vitality in therapeutic and cosmetic products. Lycopene is a compound from the carotenoid family and is naturally found in few plants and micro-organisms. Lycopene is a potent anti-oxidant that involves in cellular reactions and protects the body from carcinogenesis. Some wild type of cancers including oral, stomach, colon, cervical and rectal cancers can be prevented by the activity of lycopene. It also aids in blood cholesterol reduction, increases high density lipoprotein level, reduces low density lipoprotein level, etc. Lycopene plays a vital role in the cosmetic products by the way of involving in anti-oxidant actions, prevention of muscular degeneration and reduction of sunburns. Tomato, papaya, watermelon, pink grape, guava, etc. are some of the best natural resources that contain lycopene. Gaining more knowledge on the compound may contribute to more products and more utilisation of the natural resources in a promising way that could substantially increase the industry and the society.
