Catechins - the scavenger of free radicals

Green tea has been found to have medicinal properties like anticancer, anti-diabetic and anti-hypertensive effects as a result of the presence of catechins, which are potent anti-oxidants. A research by Martha Thomson et al. has demonstrated that, green tea components reduce blood glucose levels by modulating diabetes induced oxidative stress and up regulation of AT1 receptor by opposing deleterious effect of angiotensin II signaling. These results could open new opportunities in diabetic treatment.
