Sleep mode in bacteria offers them protection

Scientists have recently discovered that bacteria undergo hibernation with the help of FIC toxin. FIC toxin inhibits protein synthesis of a bacterium by modifying two target proteins and sends it into dormancy state in which it gets protected from the action of antibiotics. This discovery could help in understanding how pathogens and their tools undergo evolution.
