Demand for inter-linking of rivers to control floods and water scarcity
The solution to combat floods and droughts rely on inter-linking of rivers since ours is a country where different climatic conditions prevail. It will bring positive impact on agriculture and reduce poverty too but the inter-linking of rivers that does not affect the natural biosphere is the real demand. The Supreme Court of India in 2012 directed the Government to implement the inter-linking project but the inter-state complications and other reasons have delayed the project. In connection to this, the Government of Tamil Nadu had recently programmed to implement the inter-linking of rivers within the State instead of the long-drawn-out and time-consuming process that delays the project and increases cost. The scheme proposed has been brought forward to the Central Government.
