Insulin from engineered mini stomachs

Insulin from engineered mini stomachs
Patients with diabetes lose insulin-producing pancreatic cells called beta cells and to replace these cells, researchers have recently engineered mini stomachs that produce insulin. They discovered the tissue from the lower stomach to have the greatest potential to be reprogrammed into a beta-cell state and with that tissue (from mice), they developed mini organs that produced insulin when transplanted back into the animals.
