Nanogold disks destroy bacterial cells
Researchers have designed a new technique for eradicating the micro-organisms using nanomaterials, specifically gold nanoparticles with the principle of reducing metal ions into smaller units in the range of nanometre. These gold nanoparticles have the capabilities to absorb the light in a higher range which in turn gets converted to photons and heat form. This transformation has been found to destroy the bacterial cells effectively within the period of 5 to 25 seconds. This finding will pave the way for the reduction of microbial contamination in future.
